The Community Development Network

2007 was an historic year for community development and affordable housing—a record of accomplishment CDN simply could not have completed without your support. CDN played a key role in the Housing Alliance securing $26 million in new resources in Salem and helped pass a final implementation plan requiring 30% of tax increment dollars be set aside for affordable housing.

In 2008, CDN’s goals are no less ambitious. We will continue our successful advocacy strategies for new resources. Our industry support work will build the capacity of CDCs to develop and use best practices that assure projects and resident programs are efficient and effective as possible for low income families, seniors, and many others.

Merging for a stronger community development industry. Our goal is to build on the existing momentum of both AOCDO and CDN and create unified and more powerful voice for community development and affordable housing in Portland and throughout the state.

Spreading our vision: We all do better with a place to call home. CDN believes that communities are more successful when all residents have a place to call home. We have been diligently working with elected officials, community leaders and potential partners in Portland and throughout the Metro Region to make our vision a reality. Now we will join with AOCDO to share this vision of opportunity throughout Oregon.

Your membership will help us move forward in 2008. CDN relies on strong support from our community. As we move forward with the merger, we will be counting on your membership more than ever. An invoice for membership renewal is enclosed.

CDN Membership Information

CDN is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization with 501(c)(3) status.

CDN has two primary categories of Membership: Voting Membership, which is open to nonprofit Community Development Corporations (CDCs) and other nonprofit development, service, and technical assistance organizations, and Affiliate Membership, which is open to any organizations or individuals who support and partner with CDN and our Voting Membership.

Voting Membership

Voting Membership is open to Community Development Corporations (CDCs) and other nonprofit development, service, and technical assistance organizations that meet criteria established by CDN’s board. CDN Voting Members create and manage affordable housing, facilitate homeownership, promote neighborhood stability and improvement, produce jobs, and provide opportunities for economic self-sufficiency for residents and communities in the city of Portland and Multnomah County. Most of the households served by our members have incomes at or below 50% of the area median income. Organizations are approved by the CDN Board on a case by case basis.

Affliate Membership
Affiliate Membership is open to any individual or organization (private or public) that supports CDN’s mission and work CDN has four levels of Affiliate Membership

‘Friend of Affordable Housing’ and Sustaining Memberships
We encourage organizations who wish to support CDN’s work to join as Friends of Affordable Housing or Sustaining Members. These members will be listed as donors in our Annual Report, Membership Guide, and other publications, and will be recognized at our Annual Awards Banquet. Become a Friend of Affordable Housing for a contribution $1,500. Become a Sustaining Member with a contribution of $1,000.

Organizational Affiliate Membership
Organizational Affliates include financial institutions, government agencies, social service providers, advocacy groups, educational institutions, for-profit businesses, and interested individuals. Become an Organizational Affiliate for $300.

Individual Affliate Membership
Individual Affliate Members are CDN largest single group of members. We rely on contributions of friends and allies giving as individual community members not only fot the financial support, but for the support that comes with community members listing their names as CDN supporters. Become an Individual Affiliate for $50, or as low as $15 if you are a student, CDC resident or staff of a nonprofit.

Connection to a broad network of nonprofit housing developers and supporters in the City of Portland and Multnomah County.	Coordinated advocacy to create public awareness and political support for community development work.
Access to CDN mailing, e-mail and fax lists, jobs list serve, and other resources.	Policy alerts and updates on city, county, Metro and state level issues of concern to members.
Stakeholder communications: Bi-monthly Public Forums, bi-weekly electronic newsletter, and the CDN web site keep you up to date and informed.	Your support helps increase housing opportunity for hardworking families, people with disabilities, and seniors
