The newly formed Housing Alliance will convene its members and supporters for day of direct advocacy with our elected leaders in the State Capital with a message to increase opportunity for Oregonians
We need you and your people there!
We want a big, enthusiastic showing that will put the Housing Alliance on the map! Our goal is convene 150 people for Lobby Day. So get the word out now: Invite your fellow agency staff, board members, residents and concerned community today.
Come join your fellow members of the Housing Alliance as we take our message to Oregon Representative and Senators about the need for increased resources to meet the housing needs of Oregonians.
We believe that hardworking people should be able to afford housing and still have enough money for groceries and other basic necessities. We believe that housing gives seniors and people with disabilities an opportunity to build better lives. We believe that children deserve an opportunity to succeed in school and life, which is tied to having a stable home.
On February 1, we will turn our beliefs in action!
Lobby Day will consist of a morning briefing on the legislative agenda and our messages to the electeds, followed by afternoon meetings with Senators and Representatives from your home district!
Please contact Michael Anderson (mike@cdnportland.org) or Janet Byrd (jbyrd@tnpf.org) to let us know how many people you organization plans to bring.

Make the Most of Congressional Recess: Plan a February Visit on Housing
A word to the wise from Enterprise: Congress will recess Feb. 21-25. Recesses are ideal times to reach out to your members of Congress in their district offices. Setting up a meeting is easy just call your member's nearest district office and ask to speak with the staff member who handles your particular issue area (housing, etc.). Introduce yourself and tell them a little bit about your organization. Ask to set up a meeting with the member of Congress or invite the member to see the work that your organization is doing. If the member is not available, set up a meeting with the staff person or ask them to come on a tour of your work. Meetings and tours are highly effective ways to educate your national elected officials and can be the beginnings of great relationships.

Buying Recycled Paint Made Easier: MetroPaint Relocates to Swan Island
Buying recycled paint becomes easier on February 1, 2005. After producing more than one million gallons of good latex paint at its Oregon City facility, MetroPaint will re-locate to Swan Island. The new Swan Island facility will more than double MetroPaint's production, retail and storage space. Located at 4825 N. Basin, the facility will have plenty of parking.
Because the facility will not take any household hazardous waste (including no surplus latex paint) it will be called the MetroPaint Store.
Inside, expect to have plenty of light and room to make your color selections. There are now over fifteen low-sheen colors, including coordinating colors like light and dark gray, light and dark green, light and dark brown, and light and dark blue. There also are complimentary colors: white, cream, beige and khaki to go with mauve, pink, yellow and barn red.
Customers can be creative by mixing these standard colors together to get custom blends. Let your imagination go or look at the color guidebook at the Swan Island site which shows sixty-six blends customers can easily mix.
Homeowners, nonprofits and government agencies have successfully used MetroPaint on wood, masonry, concrete and vinyl and metal siding. It produces a low sheen finish on interior or exterior surfaces.
Now filtered to industry standards, it can be sprayed, brushed or rolled. Depending on surface and application method, each gallon covers 300 to 400 square feet. Because MetroPaint is 100 percent post-consumer latex paint, it costs less than new paint. Nonprofits and government agencies can receive an additional discount when buying 5-gallon buckets.
To receive the discount, nonprofits must present proof of nonprofit status via a determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service. Each time nonprofits or government agencies purchase paint, they must present a letter on the organization's letterhead with the following information:
The individual's name purchasing the paint.
The date of the intended purchase.
The quantities of each color of paint to be purchased
The intended use of the paint with the location and description of the project.
The Metro charge account number (if intending to purchase on account).
The signature of the authorizing person with the organization or agency.
While MetroPaint can not reserve paint or guarantee color selection, customers can easily find out about inventory by calling Metro's Recycling Information Line Monday thru Saturday at 503 234 3000. They can also send out color brochures. Test results, color chart and general information about the program can also be found at www.metro-region.org/paint.
Radisson Hotels and Resorts Offers Bed Donation to Nonprofits
Radisson Hotels & Resorts are replacing more than 90,000 beds across the nation. Consequently, king, queen and double-sized beds, including headboards, are being made available to local nonprofit agencies. The beds are all in good condition, sanitized, and will be delivered free-of-charge - in bulk - to nonprofit agencies.
To qualify for the program, a nonprofit must commit to taking at least 200 beds. Nonprofit agencies will then be responsible for distributing the beds to their programs and/or to individuals and families.
"Hope for the City," a Minnesota-based nonprofit is coordinating the transit and delivery of the beds. Interested agencies should contact "Hope for the City" at (952) 897-7799.
